Security Bank Foundation Holds Leadership and Management Workshop for School Principals

Security Bank Foundation, in partnership with One La Salle Educational Foundation, organized a three-day Leadership and Management Workshop for the principals of the Foundation’s “Build a School, Build a Nation: The Classrooms Project” beneficiary schools at Hotel Benilde Maison De La Salle, Manila.

Ninety-four school heads from across the country participated in the workshop which included sessions on leadership, trends in 21st century learning, creating conducive and safe school environment, building and nourishing partnerships, managing school assets and infrastructure, disaster risk reduction and management, financial management and resource mobilization.

The President of De La Salle Philippines, Br. Armin Luistro FSC, opened the workshop by recounting his memories with public school principals during his stint as Secretary of the Department of Education.  He emphasized the important role that principals play as school leaders, which represented the central theme of the workshop. “A principal’s task may be heavy, but it is a facility that would allow you to get your dreams, your heroism and your ideals to fly.  You take the school in your hands and you can make that difference to your students and to your community,” said Br. Armin.

The resource persons for the workshop were top officials and consultants of De La Salle Philippines.  The workshop was also awarded by the Professional Regulation Commission with 15 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units.  Principals who attended the workshop can credit the CPD units earned for the renewal of their professional license.

Here are testimonials from some of the workshop participants:

“I consider myself fortunate for attending the Leadership and Management Workshop for School Principals given by Security Bank Foundation.  I did not expect that I will be with the group of great leaders and speakers and gain a lot of things from them and from the workshop. I realized that leading and managing a school is not an easy task and it entails a lot of things and sacrifices in order to achieve our goals.”

Luisa Santos, Principal of Josefa V. Ycasiano Memorial School (Baliauag, Bulacan)

“I am so grateful to Security Bank Foundation for giving me the opportunity to attend such laudable training like this.  This is the complete package of training that we need. We usually have trainings but they come in chunks. This training that Security Bank Foundation has given us refreshed our knowledge in accomplishing our different key result areas as school heads.”

Emily Tango, Principal of Pallua Elementary School (Tuguegarao, Cagayan)

The training involved topics that will help us, school principals, to effectively manage and lead our schools.  The topics are very timely and relevant to the needs of the 21st century learners, teachers, parents and the community.  As a leader of my school, I realized that I have a huge responsibility to provide an environment that is suitable for the students and teachers.  Thank you, Security Bank Foundation, for a great learning experience. I will share this memorable experience to my teachers and students at my school.”

Nova Santiago, Principal of Tikay Elementary School (Malolos, Bulacan)

“I have attended lots of trainings and almost all of these were ‘child-centered’ while others were focused on our roles and responsibility as managers of the school.  This training sponsored by Security Bank Foundation also talked about leading and managing ourselves.”

Leonila Laplana, Principal of Ipil Central School (Ormoc, Leyte)

“The training gave us guidance and a clearer understanding on how we could prepare our students for the future.”

– Rosemarie Patriarca, Principal of Panabo Central Elementary School (Panabo, Davao Del Norte)

“The training for school principals involved topics that are very relevant.  As a principal, I learnt so many new ideas and concepts that will help me and my teachers deliver our services to our pupils and prepare them for the world of work.”

– Helen Abad, Principal of Canelar Elementary School (Zamboanga City)
