Iloilo, Negros Occidental and Aklan health centers level up through BDO Foundation

Dr. Rodina Mondragon, municipal health officer of Pototan in Iloilo, has been looking for generous donors who would help improve Pototan Rural Health Unit and Birthing Center. As a public health official, she was deeply concerned about the well-being of her constituents. She wanted their health facilities to level up so that their nurses and midwives could serve the community better. In dire need of rehabilitation, the health center in Pototan was not an ideal place where her health workers could provide the best patient care possible.

When she first learned that BDO Foundation was going to rehabilitate Pototan’s rural health unit, Dr. Mondragon was elated. With the rehabilitation work completed, her health workers are now able to provide high-quality healthcare services to the people.

“The rehabilitation of Pototan Rural Health Unit and Birthing Center motivates and reinvigorates us to address the healthcare needs of the community more effectively,” said Dr. Mondragon as she graciously accepted the health center during inaugural ceremonies led by BDO Foundation. “On behalf of the more than 70,000 Pototanons, I would like to thank you for rehabilitating our rural health unit. Rest assured we will take good care of this building.”

She added that the project is “a great example of public-private partnership.”

The rehabilitation of Pototan’s health center included the improvement of its layout, waiting areas, offices, consultation rooms, clinics and treatment rooms. It also included the provision of spaces for a children’s play area, waiting area for senior citizens, breastfeeding area for mothers and babies, and access for persons with disabilities. New furniture and fixtures were also provided.

The health center is one of the rehabilitation projects most recently completed by BDO Foundation as part of ongoing efforts to help improve the healthcare delivery system in the Philippines. Recently, the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank also renovated Toboso Municipal Health Office in Negros Occidental as well as Banga Health Center Annex – Animal Bite Treatment Center and Clinical Laboratory in Aklan.

The newly rehabilitated health facilities were turned over to local officials by BDO Foundation president Mario Deriquito and BDO Foundation program director Rose Espinosa together with officers of BDO and ONB branches.
